Get Old Google Image Search Back in Firefox Permanently without Add-On

I’ve shared 3 ways of how to get old google image search back in Firefox and Chrome so far. Two tips require the use of Greasemonkey scripts while the another one is a manual url tweak. The drawback of the two scripts (one of them doesn’t work anymore) is that they load the new google search interface first before automatically replacing it with the old one. The manual url tweak, on the other hand, requires the url to be changed everytime you start a new search session.

This time, there is a very simple way to get old google image search permanently without using any script or add-on, and it has no the drawbacks that I’ve mentioned above. This simple tip completely replaces the new google image search interface with the old one. However, this tip only works for Firefox browser.

How to get old google image search in Firefox browser

  1. Launch Firefox.
  2. In the address bar, type about:config.
  3. In the Filter, type general.useragent.extra.firefox to locate the string.
  4. Right-click the string and click “Modify”.
  5. Replace the string value with Mozilla/2.0 and click the [OK] button
  6. Done.

From now on, the new google image search interface is gone, replaced by the old one. If you update Firefox to its new version and the new interface comes back again, then you just have to repeat the steps above to get the old back again.

To reset the modified string, right-click “general.useragent.extra.firefox” and select “Reset”.
