Free Folder Color & Icon Changer for Windows 7: Folderico for Windows 7
Changing folder color or icon isn’t only good when you get bored with the standard ones, but it’s also good to differentiate some folders from the rest, thus making them easier to find. Folderico for Windows 7 is a free folder icon changer that allows you to change the icons of any folder with an unlimited supply of icons that can also be accessed right from the context-menu. It’s definitely far more effective than changing a folder icon through the properties.

Once installed, you can change folder color or icon either from the main program or by right-clicking a folder. Unfortunately, while it also works for Windows 7 64-bit as well, the context-menu integration can only be used on Windows 32-bit.
If you run a Windows 7 32-bit, you’ll see a list of folder icons under the Folderico menu when you right-click on a folder. Selecting and clicking any of the icon will replace the current icon immediately.

Folderico provides several icon themes by default, each of them contains a number of folder icons. More icon themes can be downloaded from the developer’s website. Which icon theme to be displayed on the context-menu can be configured by going to the Option window, click the “Change context menu icon-theme…”, and double-click the theme you want. It can also be changed from the context-menu by clicking the “Change Theme…” under the Folderico menu.

To add a new icon theme into the program, launch the main window and click “Select icon…”. Then, click the plus button, browse to the folder where you keep the theme pack and click it. Use the minus button to delete any theme.

The application comes with a number of language packs. If you want to use your language but can’t find it on the default packs, then you can check other language packs provided at the developer’s website.
Folderico is designed by Shedko software and is free for private use. Visit the developer’s homepage to download the latest version.

[...] Windows 7 Folder Background Changer is designed to change folder background, change folder text color, and add shadow to the text. When you change a folder background, you can also apply the change to its subfolders. While the title of the program implies that it can only change folder background, it can be used to change drive background as well when I tested it. If you want it, the change to the drive background can also be applied to the directories. Read also: Folder Color & Icon Changer for Windows 7 [...]
